Welcome to the home of Youth @ St. Mary's!  We are a growing community who love to have fun while we serve God and the Church!  Right now we're feeling called to mission, so we invite your ideas or contacts as we plan a mission trip - we're thinking we might go to Appalachia.  We're also planning our Pilgrimage for J2A - an awesome way to grow ourselves spiritually!

Worship Center is a church school program for children in Kindergarten through 4th grades.  Older and younger children may participate as well.  The class is held on Sundays during the Education Hour at 9:15 am.
During Worship Center, children learn about the church calendar and church rituals.  A calendar puzzle is used to track progress through the church calendar.  The highlight of the morning is the story, based on a Bible passage and told with figurines and props.  At the end of the story, children are encouraged to ask "wondering questions."  A snack is served, and the remainder of the class time is spent creating artwork using colored paper, paints, crayons, glue, and any other materials desired.  Two adults are in the class each week.  The Story Teller leads the class and tells the story. The Greeter welcomes each child into the class as they arrive, participates in the class activities, and helps with art supplies and general support.

Additional volunteers and children are always welcome.  Donations of art supplies or snacks are also welcome.  For more information on the Worship Center or to help out with time or supplies, contact Lisa.

Rite 13 is designed for youth in the sixth through eighth grades.  In this program we celebrate the creative energy of this time period in a young person's life, and create a community that establishes and maintains cross-gender friendships and shares experiences and memories.  We do this by careful listening and by being light-hearted while we do serious study.  We also engage in just plain fun on periodic outings.

At St. Mary's, the "Journey to Adulthood" program enables us to  live in community with our youth as they grow from childhood through adolescence and into adulthood.  It is a journey of three segments - Rite 13, J2A (Journey to Adulthood), and YAC (Young Adults in the Church).  The guiding principle is that manhood and womanhood are gifts from God.  The program focuses on four areas - Self, Sexuality, Spirituality, and Society.

To safeguard our youth, all group leaders undergo the "Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse" training given by the diocese of Western Michigan.

The Rite 13 group meets in the Youth Room on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. (between the services). Please check the online announcements or the Sunday bulletin for extra activities or schedule changes.  For questions, contact Theresa.

J2A   (Journey to Adulthood) meets on the second and Fourth Sundays, 9:00 am  Description coming soon! For questions, contact Nancy and Jim.

We are committed to establishing a strong youth ministry. We will do so by inviting and welcoming all into our midst, nourishing them in their spiritual growth and supporting them as they minister in Christ's name.
